Dr. Oliver Gnad

Oliver Gnad is the co-founder and managing director of the „Bureau fuer Zeitgeschehen” (Bureau of Current Affairs), a Frankfurt-based think-and-do-tank specialized in strategic foresight and scenario planning. He is a Senior Advisor on geopolitics at Berlin Global Advisors, Non-Resident Fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, Fellow of the Dahrendorf Forum and a Certified Senior Instructor of Globalytica Ltd., a Washingtonbased thought leader in building analytic cultures. Since 2015, he is also an adjunct faculty member of the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. From 2008 to 2016, he served as Director of GIZ AgenZ, an in-house consultancy of “Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit” (GIZ, German Development Cooperation). Between 2003 and 2007, he was the Director for International Programs of the “Ebelin and Gerd Bucerius ZEIT Foundation” in Hamburg. Before his stint at the ZEIT Foundation, Oliver Gnad was research assistant at the Chair for Contemporary History at the Goethe University in Frankfurt and at the Chair for Political Science at the Ruhr University Bochum. He is the author of several books and articles on the Cold War, the German party system, sustainable development as well as foreign and security policy issues. He holds a doctoral degree in contemporary history from Goethe University Frankfurt.

The Bureau fuer Zeitgeschehen (Bureau of Current Affairs) is a think-and-do-tank based in Frankfurt/Germany. Making use of strategic foresight and scenario planning methodologies, the Bureau helps its clients to navigate the terra incognita of an increasingly unpredictable, complex and highly dynamic world. It sensitizes its customers from both the public and private sector for key drivers of societal change and helps to develop capabilities and capacities in time. The Bureau has worked with the Planning Staff of the German Federal Chancellery, the German Foreign Office, Think Tanks on both sides of the Atlantic, in Russia and on the African continent and the private sector. The Bureau has in-depth expertise in foreign and security policy, energy and resource security, climate change, the Habitat, and economic development.
