Profile

Dr Gordon Friedrichs was employed as a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Governance in Multilevel Systems at the University of Freiburg from October 2021 until July 2023.

His research focuses on the domestic political contestation of international norms; resilience and transformation of regional and international orders; and comparative foreign policy analysis. He also has regional expertise in the USA, South and East Asia and Asia-Pacific.

In addition to his research activities, he regularly teaches courses on international relations theory, US foreign policy, conflict and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, the EU as a global actor and global order. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the DFG Research Training Group "Authority and Trust" at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies at Heidelberg University. He studied at Heidelberg University, Arizona State University and Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

Gordon Friedrichs is part of the team of spokespersons for the DVPW thematic group "Foreign and Security Policy".
